From the TallCree First Nation in Alberta, currently residing in BC.
With Post Secondary education. Treatment Information Counselor and Peer
Advocate experience. Advocated for First Nations for many years,
building strong contacts from coast to coast. My goal is to try to
bridge the gaps between the Aboriginal people of Canada and broader
society, helping First Nations move out of the margins of society.
Aboriginals are currently faced with an overwhelming HCV/HIV epidemic,
cycles of poverty and addictions, stigma and discrimination both on and
off reserves. I aim to mobilize organizations together and form
partnerships to challenge existing support structures and social
policies. I advocated for my own Lipo Suction surgery coverage from
MSPBC being the first candidate and setting precedence in BC, resulting
in a change to policy and direct benefit to other PHA’s.
I’ve been very public in Advocacy to fight stigma and discrimination
and access to treatment media, interview by CTV, APTN and in CTAC and
CATIE newsletters. I’m active with BCPWA, Red Road HIV/AIDS Network
Society, CATIE
I’ve been CTAC’s Aboriginal Representative for the last year and
accepted nomination to serve CTAC Board for the past 7 months. I’m
proud of my 2 spirited nature and seek election to CTAC’s Board to
continue to represent Canada Aboriginal Nation’s and all PHA’s.
