Mike Sangster has been a volunteer with community based AIDS service organizations in Nova Scotia and nationally for the past twenty years. He has served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the AIDS Coalition of Nova Scotia (ACNS) for the past 15 years in various positions, including: member-at-large, treasurer and ACNS Board Chairperson. His solid leadership attributes, teamwork approach and financial understanding has made it possible for him to be elected ACNS Board Chairperson for five years and now their Treasurer again.

Mike has been the Nova Scotia Provincial Representative on CTAC for the past five years. He is an active member of CATIE and serves as ACNS's PHA representative on the Regional Atlantic AIDS Network (RAAN). He has worked on the following CTAC committees: 1) the PASS/Cross Disabilities Working Group, 2) Organizational Development, 3) the CTAC AGM Planning Committee and 4) CTAC's representative on the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) Positive Prevention Working Group. This year Mike is assisting on CTAC's new Membership and Provincial Development committee and is the Chairperson of CTAC's AGM Planning committee.

As a PHA, Mike has always strived to pass on any knowledge and understanding acquired about access to therapies and treatments for people living with HIV/AIDS. Mike believes strongly in the importance of PHAs taking an active role in their treatment as they are able and capable to do so.
