About the CTAC Board of Directors

CTAC is made up of a general membership, a Council, and a Board of Directors.

The Council consists of 27 representative seats: one from each province, one for the three territories, one for each of a number of PHA-focused National and local AIDS related organizations across the country, and representatives from specific communities.

The Board of Directors is a body of 9 individuals elected from and by the general membership for staggered two-year terms, annually. (Council members can run for election for the Board, and so may be both Board and Council members at the same time.)

The CTAC Board membership is intended to reflect a diversity of experience, skills, knowledge and abilities. We are looking for members from all areas of Canada and from a range of ethno-cultural backgrounds. CTAC’s Board members assist in ensuring broader participation in CTAC’s activities. In addition to meeting the requirements outlined in the Nominations and Election Procedures for 2010, the ideal candidate will:

  • Possess knowledge and experience in HIV/AIDS treatment information from a personal, consumer, clinical and/or organizational perspective
  • Demonstrate an awareness of HIV/AIDS treatment issues Demonstrate effective public relations and networking skills, particularly with consumer groups, community-based AIDS/PLWA-driven organizations, pharmaceutical industry, and governments
  • Possess experience in board governance, human resource management, financial management, health care practice, organizational development and/or fundraising
  • Be prepared to actively participate in a broad range of advocacy efforts, committees and ad-hoc groups
  • Be prepared to commit an average of 5-15 hours per week to the organization, depending on the work undertaken
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Be prepared to travel four to six times per year for board meetings and related CTAC events, at CTAC’s expense
  • Have reliable access to various modes of communication, including e-mail
  • Be willing to commit to a two year term on the Board of Directors
  • Not be in a conflict of interest position, in particular based on their employment with any of CTAC’s funders or targets of CTAC’s active advocacy work
